I know. A couple of days with a bit of sun and we all go mad with flip flops, shorts, water bans and the
sunnies make an appearance, right?
Joking aside, looking ahead to the ACTUAL summer months, I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind accelerating our fat loss goals towards the summer...
I'm sure a lot of us wouldn't mind accelerating our fat loss goals full stop.
The reality of it is that we probably should have started already, myself included.
At a healthy fat loss rate of around 0.5% of body weight per week, we should be looking to do this over time.
Not in a 6 week blast before the summer. Not a 'shred for summer' plan. Not a 'get summer ready with this 15 minute workout'. Certainly not 'let's not eat anything the 2 weeks before it' in desperation.
We should be looking at around 20 weeks for someone to lose around 10kg. 20 weeks would be August.
- Understand what you're currently eating
- Bring yourself in to a sensible calorie defecit
- Use a mixture of weight training and cardio when needed
- Progress both of these things when needed
- Track your progress
- Be consistent
- Work hard.
Please don't leave it too late and panic into all the cardio and all the diets.
Please look in to doing it in a sensible and effective way.
Start now, give yourself time, progress things each week and enjoy the process. We often need longer than we think, so give yourself the time.
Make it a positive experience unlike the way you may have done in the past.
When it comes to working towards our summer goals, implementing change progressively and steadily over a longer period of time will mean less drastic measures, more sustainability and ultimately more success.
Don't think about getting ready for summer.
Think about getting in the shape you want and staying there.
